Aduhuli
Traditional
How to set-up
1. To start you need the Aduhuli game board and 18 game pieces. 3 of which are tigers and the remaining 15 are goats.
2. All goats have to be introduced on the board before a goat can start moving.
3. Pawns (either tigers or goats) should be placed only on intersections of lines.
How to play
2. The goats must move according to these rules: They must leave the board when captured. They can not jump over the tigers or other goats. They can only move after all 15 have been put on the board.
3. The tigers must move according to these rules: They can start capturing goats in any moment after the match has started. They can capture only one goat at a time. They can jump over a goat in any direction.
4. But the direction must be to an adjacent intersection following any of the lines drawn on the board. A tiger cannot jump over another tiger.
How to win
1. Tigers win if they take out at least 6 goats.
2. Goats win if they immobilise all three tigers.
3. The goat objective is to encircle the tigers so that none of the tigers can move. The tiger objective is to kill all the goats.
Tips & tricks
1. At the start of the game all 3 tigers are placed on the apex, and 2 inner places closest to the apex. All goats start off the board.
2. The player controlling the goats moves first by placing a goat onto a free intersection on the board. Then it is the tigers turn. One tiger is then moved to an adjacent position along the lines that indicate the valid moves.
3. A tiger captures a goat by jumping over it to an adjacent free position (like in checkers). The goats can not move until all 15 have been put on the board.
History
1. Lambs and Tigers Game locally referred as Aadu Huli aata or Pulijudam is a strategic, two-player or 2 team leopard hunt game that is played in South India.
2. The game is asymmetric in that one player controls three tigers and the other player controls up to 15 lambs/goats. The tigers 'hunt' the goats while the goats attempt to block the tigers' movements.
3. This game helps people to develop strategy and concept of teamwork by teaching that even though weak, if united, one can defeat the stronger enemy as a team.
