How to set-up

1. El Coyote is played on a 5-by-5 grid. Lines indicate permitted moves, including several possible diagonal moves.

2. One player is the sheep; they select 12 BEADs the colour of their choice. Ten sheep BEADs are placed on the two rows closest to the player. The additional two BEADs are placed on the outside edges of the middle row.

3. One player is the coyote, they place a single BEAD, the colour of their choice, on the middle space.

4. Players decide who starts by rolling a dice.

How to play

1. The player who plays the sheep may only move a BEAD one space each move, and only along the lines indicated on the board. Sheep can only move to adjacent spaces that are empty.

2. The player who plays the coyote may move their BEAD one space along the indicated lines to an adjacent empty space, or they can capture a sheep.

3. To capture sheep, the coyote jumps over a sheep BEAD and lands on an empty space beyond it.

4. Captures are not mandatory.

5. Captured sheep BEADs are removed from the board.

6. Sheep BEADs cannot capture the coyote BEAD.

How to win

1. To win a round, the sheep must trap the coyote in one of the four corners of the board.

2. To win a round, the coyote must capture three sheep.

3. Players alternate between playing the coyote and the sheep.

4. To win the game, a player must win the most rounds.
