How to set-up
1. Mū Tōrere is played on an eight-pointed star with an additional point in the middle of the star. Lines indicate permitted moves.
2. Each player selects 4 BEADs the colour of their choice.
3. BEADs are placed on the 4 adjacent points closest to the player, leaving on the middle point empty.
4. Players decide who begins the game by rolling a die.
How to play
1. Players take turns in moving one of their BEADs onto an open point.
2. Players may only move their BEAD to the centre point if the BEAD on the centre point becomes adjacent to their opponent’s BEAD.
How to win
To win, a player must block their opponent’s so that they cannot move.
History
Mū tōrere is a board game that was played mainly by the Māori people from the east coast of New Zealand's North Island. It is one of the 2 board games that the Māori people are known to have played before their country became part of the British Empire.
