How to set-up

1. Pong Hau K’i is played on a square board, intersections are play spaces. Lines indicate permitted moves.

2. Each player selects 2 BEADs the colour of their choice.

3. Player one places their two BEADs on both corners of the open side of the square, while their opponent places their two beads on the other two sides of the square leaving only the middle space empty.

4. The player with their BEADs on the corners of the open side of the square starts.

How to play

In turns, players move a BEAD onto the empty intersection along the lines marked on the board.

How to win

To win the game, a player must block their opponent’s BEADs so that they cannot move.

History

1. Originally Pong Hau K'i was played on the ground. The game board was drawn on the ground with chalk and game pieces were stones or pebbles.

2. Similar games are also played in Thailand like Sua tok tong and in northern India - Punjab: Do-guti.
