How to set-up

1. Shisima is played on an octagonal board consisting of eight points around the outside and 1 point in the middle. Lines indicate permitted moves.

2. Each player selects 3 BEADs the colour of their choice.

3. BEADs are placed on 3 adjacent points on the outside of the octagon, opposite their opponent's BEADs.

4. Players decide who begins the game by rolling a die.

How to play

In turns, each player moves 1 BEAD along the lines of the board onto an empty point, trying to form a line of 3 BEADs.

How to win

To win the game, a player must create a row of 3 BEADs with 1 BEAD on the centre point.

History

1. Shisima is a two-player abstract strategy game originating in Kenya. It has similarities to tic-tac-toe, but it's related closer to Tapatan, Three Men's Morris, Nine Holes, Achi, Tant Fant, and Dara, because pieces are moved on the board to create a 3 in-a-row.

2. Shisima translates to "body of water" in Kenyan. The pieces are called imbalavali which translates to "water bugs".
