How to play

1. The gameboard of Yote....

2. If a player has no moves available, the game ends and the player with the more remaining pieces is the winner.

3. Captures are never mandatory.

How to win

1. The winner is the player who has captured all of his opponent's pieces.

2. The game ends in a draw if both players are left with three or fewer pieces.

Tips & tricks

1. A player may place a piece in hand on any empty cell of the board. In a move, a player may move one of their pieces already on the board to an adjacent orthogonal cell.

2. A player may capture an opponent's piece if it is orthogonally adjacent to a player's piece, by jumping to the empty cell immediately beyond it.

3. The captured piece is removed from the board, and the capturing player removes another of the opponent's pieces on the board of his choosing.

History

1. Yoté is a traditional strategy board game of West Africa, where it is a popular gambling game due to its fast pace and surprising turnarounds.

2. Its rules are a bit like draughts, but it has a unique double-capture rule which allow the fortunes of the game to change rapidly. Another strategic twist is that the board starts empty and pieces are placed or moved at will. You do not have to wait till all your pieces are entered before you start moving them, but you can keep them in reserve.
